Although neuropsychologists and other health professionals did not traditionally use technology in their practice prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, it has been a catalyst for the development of remote assessments and has propelled telemedicine and teleneuropsychology to the forefront. Given that older adults are at higher risk of hospitalization and death from COVID-19, clinicians were required to rapidly implement teleneuropsychology in their practice, to maintain access to services. Yet, these assessments are crucial to allow for the early detection of cognitive impairment, and consequently for early intervention. These ongoing staying-at-home and social distancing measures to control virus transmission have for collateral effect to reduce in-person health services, among these, neuropsychological and cognitive assessments. In March 2020, the world was put on hold because of the COVID-19 pandemic: several countries forced their populations to home confinement following the World Health Organisation’s recommendation. The present normative data will not only allow clinicians to continue to perform assessments remotely in this pandemic period but will also allow them to perform cognitive assessments to patients located in remote areas. This study provides normative data for the MoCA administered via videoconference in Quebec-French individuals aged 50 years and over. For clinicians, a regression equation was proposed to calculate Z scores. Neither sex nor cardiovascular disease, were significant predictors in our analyses. Regression analyses revealed that older age and lower education were associated with poorer total MoCA scores, for medium effect size ( p < 0.001, R 2 = 0.17). As an exploratory analysis, a second regression analysis was also run with cardiovascular disease as a predictor. Regression analyses were run with sex, education, and age as predictors of the total MoCA scores, based on previously published norms. MethodsĪ total of 230 community-dwelling adults aged 50 years and older taking part in clinical trials completed the MoCA by videoconference. This study had for objective to develop French-Quebec normative data for videoconference-administration of the MoCA that consider sociodemographic characteristics. The normative data specific to the context of videoconference administration is essential, particularly that consider sociodemographic characteristics. Recent reviews appear to confirm the validity of a wide range of neuropsychological tests for teleneuropsychology and among these, the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA), a cognitive screening test widely used in clinical settings. The COVID-19 pandemic forced health professionals to rapidly develop and implement telepractice and remote assessments. ICONIQ Capital is a global investment firm elevated by an extraordinary community. This goes a long way in removing the obstacles and frustrations you're bound to run into when experimenting with automation. Not to mention that having a supportive community means you'll usually be able to find a solution when you run into an error. There are communities and blogs dedicated to creating new Zaps and coming up with new inspirations. So when you decide to jump into the deep end, you won't have to do it alone. Unsurprisingly, Zapier is very widely used within many professional circles. When you need tutorials and community support Whether you're following a tutorial or creating your own Zap, Zapier offers plenty of options to accomplish your goal. Zapier has also created a flexible system that allows you to make each Zap your own. And even if you do, there's a good chance it will be supported in the future. This means you're unlikely to use an app that Zapier doesn't support. It integrates with more than 2,500 apps and more are added regularly. We’ve said this before, but it bears repeating: you can more or less do anything when it comes to automation in Zapier. When it comes to automation, Zapier is that tool - its richness makes it incredibly rewarding to master and a valuable asset for your organisation.īelow, we've listed three scenarios where you'll find Zapier is far more appropriate than the built-in options offered by other apps. That said, there are times when the simplest solution needs to have a layer of complexity. When trying to solve a problem, the simplest solution is usually the best. If you already have an automation solution that works for you, then it's probably best to stick with that platform for as long as you can. While Zapier is one of the most popular automation platforms, it's far from the only one. The more apps you try to integrate with one another, the more room there is for error, the more time you'll spend updating things, and the more accounts you'll have to keep up with. Lastly, if you're already locked into an app's ecosystem of services and features, then trying to throw Zapier into the mix may just complicate things. When you're already locked into a different ecosystem If you're new to automation, it can be pretty difficult to accomplish even simple tasks, such as creating and sharing API keys.Įver tried to create your own Zaps, or simply follow a Zapier tutorial, only to find that most of what you read went over your head? Then it's probably best to stick with your app's simpler, built-in automation features to start.Īfter all, you're less likely to run into errors when the app does most of the heavy lifting for you. When you're just starting outĪs mentioned, Zapier has a pretty steep learning curve. What’s more, Zapier is by its nature a cross-platform solution, and sometimes you don't need that level of integration.Įssentially, if your needs are simple, then a simple solution will do. On the other hand, automated features in Slack, for example, usually only take one or two steps, often just involve flipping a switch or enabling an option, and tend to guide you towards some very specific workflows they know you're likely to need. However, this can cause just as much stress as it does relief - Zapier has a steep learning curve, especially if you're new to logic flows and automation. (Almost) any automation you can think of, you can most likely achieve. When your workflow is simpleĪ platform like Zapier offers you everything. To help you decide if built-in automation is right for you, here are three scenarios where a built-in service might be preferred over Zapier. The downside? They can often be underpowered for your organisation’s needs. Platforms such as Airtable, Slack and Pipedrive all make it easy to link in-app actions with external apps. And because these features are already present in the apps you use, they offer a simple (and usually free) alternative to bells-and-whistles tools like Zapier. The first evidence for sub-atomic particles came from experiments with the conduction of electricity through gases in sealed glass tubes at low pressures.įigure : J.J. An eminent organic chemist of the time, Adolf Kolbe, said in 1877, "Dalton's atoms are no more than stupid re table-tapping and supernatural explanations." Some contemporaries of Dalton remained unimpressed. compounds result from combinations of atoms in specific ratios.atoms of an element are identical to one another but different from atoms of other elements. atoms of one element cannot be converted into atoms of another element.all matter consists of indivisible atoms which cannot be created or destroyed. This led to a relative mass scale for atoms that was mostly in error.ĭalton also had his own notation for some of the elements he recognized.ĭalton's "modern" atomic theory, in todays terms, would be something like this: He described what we now call molecules as "atoms" and was convinced that the simplest binary compound of any two elements would have those atoms in a 1:1 ratio. His experiments with gases eventually led him to the idea that matter came in small indivisible units but his use of the word "atom" was variable. John Dalton apparently thought that atoms were pretty much little solid spheres without internal structure. And the third postulate led Dalton to formulate the Law of Multiple Proportions. It may not seem like much, but such a theory was used to explain two of the major laws in chemistry: the Law of Conservation of Mass and the Law of Constant (definite) Composition. In 1808 the first statement of a modern atomic theory was published by John Dalton, a Quaker schoolmaster from Manchester.
